MAUI, Hawaii Part 2: Snorkeling + The Gemini

Waking up in the morning on vacation and hearing the ocean is one of the greatest feelings ever. In Hawaii, we woke up early. Sometimes even before the sun came up because of the time change. Hawaii doesn’t recognize daylight savings time so if it was 7am in Maui, it would be 10am in California. I wasn’t mad about it though. My days seemed that much longer…and who doesn’t like a long vacation?? šŸ™‚
It was our third day in Hawaii and we had nothing to do but carpe diem. The first thing we did was got some Kona coffee and explored our beach while we talked about what to do that day.

On our way back to get our bathing suits and snorkel gear, we couldn’t help but notice the flamingos hanging out. We saw them again at night sleeping…on one leg. Flamingos are funny creatures.
I had 2 items on my list of things to do in Hawaii: Snorkel & Relax. It would be my first time ever to snorkel so I was eager to swim with some tropical fish and maybe a sea turtle?
Tommy was ready:
And with my trusty LifeProof iphone case, So was I. Yes, all of these underwater photos were taken with my iphone so please forgive the resolution.

Later on, we took a catamaran called The Gemini out to a different cove around to the north-eastern part of the island. Along the way we snorkeled some more, met some newlyweds from Australia, and swam with more sea creatures…

These guys are pretty amazing creatures…

After the cruise was complete, we stuck around with are Aussie friends for the remainder of the evening. Meet: Emma and Scott, who were married on October 19th, 2013. They told us it took them awhile to get adjusted to driving on a different side of the road and also in the opposite seat! When we visit Australia, we’ll know what you mean šŸ™‚

We had to get in on the fun too…

Aloha!

Here’s a video of something interesting that happened. Around our hotel during the golden hour hundreds of birds congregated together and it seemed like every single on of them had something to say. This video doesn’t quite to the birds justice…just imagine it 10x louder than what your speakers tell you.

The perfect end to a pretty perfect day.

Look back at Part 1:
Stay tuned for part 3 at the top of Haleakala Crater!
