Product Review: Canon 35mm 1.4L Lens

This past Saturday was the first wedding of 2013. It was a beautiful wedding and perfect sunny January day in Chico, California. With it being a new year filled with new ideas and a refreshed mindset, I wanted to try something new.

Over the past 6 months, I’ve taken a strong liking to prime lenses. I decided to call Photosource, based here in Sacramento, to rent a lens from them for Saturday’s wedding. Luckily they had the lens that I was looking for: 35mm 1.4L lens for Canon. And ohhhhh boy was that a nice treat! I loved shooting at around 1.8, 2.0 on the L series glass. The Bokeh is amazing and it totally fixes your eye on the subject.  I loved using the 35mm for getting ready photos, family formals, and a few of the bride and groom photos. Oh! and definitely for the dance party photos. Basically, it was on my camera most of the day!

Below is a peek into my camera bag.  My current lens set up is a 16-35mm 2.8L, 50mm 1.8, and 70-200mm 2.8L IS II USM lens.

I think the 35mm will be a perfect addition to the family…one day! In the meantime, here are a couple of photos from the wedding day using the 35mm along with camera settings.
