Today’s proposal story is told from the groom’s perspective on how he proposed. Chris was a nervous wreck which makes the story much more entertaining. 🙂 An uncomfortable car ride, a month of anticipation…sit back and read how he did it!
“I actually had the ring for over a month and it took everything in me to not give it away. I even had to show the ring off to a few people who visited us just to get it off my chest. Finally we had plans to go to Napa for the day and I thought it would be the perfect moment. Unfortunately, Dennette’s parents were out of the state and I hadn’t had a chance to meet with her father to ask for his blessing. It was a blessing-in-disguise because it turned out that she was expecting it to happen that day.
About a week later I came up with a plan. I wanted to ask her in a place that would be somewhat private and could be special to us forever, so I decided to go for a hike along the ocean. On the day of the engagement I was a nervous wreck. Dennette mistook my nervousness for frustration, thinking that I was mad at her for letting work interupt our first day off together in weeks. In reality I was trying to plan what I was going to say and when I was going to say it.
Most of the car ride was uncomfortable silence, which helped aid my element of surprise. When we finally got to the trail I was freaking out, frantically running through everything in my mind and trying to create the perfect scenario. The trail opened up about a mile in, and we were standing on a cliff overlooking the most incredible view of the Pacific Ocean, and that is the moment I knew the time was right. Dennette was taking pictures of the view and had her back turned to me so I knelt next to our puppy Dexter and pulled a rock out of my pocket that I had written the words “Will You Marry Me?” on. When she turned back around I told her to come see what I had found. When I handed her the rock she LOST IT! At first she just kept asking me if I was serious and then she just started crying hysterically.
The speech I had planned was useless but the moment was priceless. I eventually had to ask her if that meant yes, to which she emphatically nodded her head (still unable to speak) and stuck her hand out for me to put the ring on. I’m still amazed that a simple hike with a gorgeous view was exactly the recipe for one of the most special moments we will share together.”
