THE

Another Year, Another External Hard Drive, Another Challenge

I recently bought a new external hard drive because I filled up one of my external 2 Terabyte hard drive with some pretty amazing 2013 weddings, engagements, and personal photos. A new 3TB one took its place so we should be good for the year!  Of course, I have another hard drive I back everything up on…and there’s also backup storage on the internet…but that’s a whole different story.

For me, sometimes personal photos get put on the back burner because there is no deadline to complete the set…or make an album…or upload them to social media. The result? They usually go unfinished. Sad, right?? As the 2014 season begins, I’m challenging myself for the year to actually DO something with my personal images. Write blogs, shoot for fun, tell a story about those images, make an album. Anything but sit on a hard drive waiting to be archived.

Now that I’ve put my challenge out into the blogosphere, here are some photos that I think really shaped and summed up my 2013 year:

Kicking the 2013 year off with these amazing photographers. Led by Jasmine Star, we all got our business’ whipped into shape! So much valuable information was instilled in my brain during this time. I’m forever grateful!

The majority of the first 3 months of 2013 was spent up in Seattle…while I was there Tommy came up to see me and we explored the city a little bit. We also took a ferry to Bainbridge Island and it was the first time I’ve ever been on a ferry like this…
It was important to explore the city and the surrounding areas because now, Seattle will forever hold a special place in my heart.
Meeting amazing local photographers in the Sacramento area. It’s so important to connect with local peers like yourself, talk about ideas, see what’s working/not working for them, helping each other…all over good food and drinks.

When my entire immediate family is together, it makes me the happiest guy on earth. This past year, Tommy and I spent a lot more time together and I am so fortunate to have a family that is supportive. This photo was taken at Easter…
Blowing out my 26th birthday candles with this special little girl <3 p="">

Then continuing my birthday by the beach with my best friend…
This view from behind our family’s cabin in South Lake Tahoe. There’s just something about immersing yourself in nature that’s so refreshing. This view will never get old.

This ol’ girl just turned 13 years old…My Black Labrador, Baylee.

First ever trip to Hawaii!! Maui to be exact…
And my first time snorkeling!!
Also in Hawaii I got to re-create a photo of my dad that was taken many years ago. Maybe not in the same spot, but the same crater.

My dad:

And lastly, right before the Holidays came, Tommy and I moved into a house together…annnnd we may or may not have used a WOK to cook everything on until we just recently got pots and pans. Hey, gotta do what you gotta do right? Our walls are still a little bare…but the rest of the house is coming along nicely.

Here’s to the challenge I’m giving myself for 2014…Do you have any personal challenges you are giving yourself for the year?
