RESTART: Episode 2

I believe that one never stops learning. There can always be a new perspective in any period of your life, work that you are doing, or a new place to see that you can learn something from. Educating yourself and being open to new ideas helps keep life exciting, fresh, and new.

If you are just tuning in, I submitted myself and my business to “Restart: A Photography Business Makeover.” Jasmine Star has been a photographer I’ve looked up to for a long time. She worked her way from the bottom to the top and I jumped at the chance to be able to get One on One advice from her. Here’s a photo of the two of us:

In episode One we talked about communication and shooting for our brand. This time around, we dived into websites, online presence, and pricing. This was tough stuff to put out there for 15,000 people to watch! Especially when it came time to shoot AGAIN. We had to shoot in a confined space and again shoot for our branding words…LIVE. Mine are creative, fun, and real. For the shoot though, I only shot for fun and real. When I get creative, I like to use the elements around me to help with creative-ness. Here are a few shots from that dreadful 10 minute shoot…

In the next 19 days (GAH!) I am challenged to create a whole new website filled with tons of new content. I am incredibly fortunate to be able to work with an incredible design team to help me create my vision for my new site. Because to be honest? I’m the kind of person that would rather do that kind of stuff on my own. Whether it be because it’s a lot cheaper or because I have worked with designers in the past and they haven’t been able to follow through. I sat down with Promise Tangeman, an amazing designer while she critiqued my website and that was probably the best thing that I could hear! Hearing someone else’s perspective can really generate new ideas that you may not have thought about on your own. This doesn’t have to be with a graphic designer…it can be with your mom, your friend, or colleague! I’m thankful to have these two wonderful ladies by my side as we go along in the process:

If you are a photographer and you feel the same (or similar) way as I do, or just want a group of photographers to spit (that sounds gross) ideas around, give suggestions, and ask questions…RESTART Facebook Group is a really good resource and I encourage you to join in. Never is there any right or wrong answer.

Now here are a few photos…

I caught this one of Jasmine and her right hand man/awesome husband JD as they were going over a few things at the Creative Live Studios

A couple of days before Restart, all of us went to Lunch at the Pink Door in Post Alley to discuss episode 2 and life. Best. Lunch. EVER. I was also privileged with photographing the two of them…thanks to Melissa for getting this shot of me shooting them..

Le Sigh..Love this.

And lastly, here’s all of us that are on this crazy journey to better not only ourselves but our business.

I feel so honored and blessed to have colleagues and friends be so supportive as I lay out all of my weaknesses and strengths in my business for the internet to see. The support from the internet has been amazing as well. There is SUCH a great sense of community in the restart group and the people who watched the course. My heart feels so warm and humbled inside. Thank you guys, seriously.

It’s GO time!
