“Dating is a crazy adventure, and living in San Francisco in your 30’s makes for some very interesting stories. Some you will probably want to forget, and some you will definitely want to forget. However, when the dating ultimately leads you to meeting “the one”, regardless of how it happens, you will never forget. So when we tell people we first met on Christmas Eve morning, in a hospital delivery room, and then ultimately online…it makes for a pretty good story.
Christmas Eve morning, 2014 –
For those of you who do not know, Amy is a nurse (a fantastic one at that!). She had recently transitioned into labor and delivery and was at the hospital starting her 7am shift. Nick on the other hand (who is fantastic at watching sports on TV) was off work and planning to head home to Fresno for the holidays when he got a call from his mom telling him that his twin sister was going into labor and that the family was coming up to San Francisco.
(this is Tucker, Amy + Nick’s friendly and happy lab – I’m so happy he joined us on the shoot!)
Dressed in his vacation finest (an old college t-shirt, jeans, a 10 yr old fleece jacket, and running shoes) Nick arrived with his family at the hospital to a mostly empty hospital room…at a computer with her back turned, scrubs on, and an attractive surgical hat, was a nurse named Amy. She turned to say hi and said mom and baby were coming in soon after. While of course there to meet his new niece, Nick definitely couldn’t help but notice the cute nurse. It was labor and delivery after all, so the percentage of females working on that floor was pretty high…and Nick figured, why not kill two birds with one stone?!?! Given Nick was single, his mom took every chance she could to point out the cute doctor in the room (love you mom)….however, all Nick noticed was nurse Amy. He even asked his sister and brother-n-law to put in a good word for him as he left that day, never knowing if he’d see her again (yes, in hind-site he should have manned up and talked to her that day, but it all worked out).
San Francisco is a deceptively small town and while Nick had hoped he’d run into Amy somewhere down the road, he never thought it would be within five days, and especially not through an online dating site (to remain nameless). Little did either of them know that they had both been searching for “the one”, and the second Nurse Amy popped up on Nick’s screen he knew exactly who she was. Amy on the other hand thought Nick and his amazing blue eyes looked awfully familiar but she couldn’t figure out why. As it turned out, Amy McDuffie (as her profile read) was Nurse Amy, and amazingly enough, the paths of two people who randomly met on Christmas Eve morning, in a hospital delivery room, had crossed again.
The rest as they say…is history!” – Amy + Nick
