The Groomsman

It was about a year ago when one of my best friends Caleb asked me to be a groomsman in his wedding. I asked him, “You don’t want me to photograph your wedding?” “No way” he said. “I want you to be able to enjoy yourself!” I smiled, congratulated him again, and gave him a hug. I was stoked! It’s not that often that I show up to a wedding and not have my camera with me.

On the day of the wedding, we all met up for breakfast because Caleb and his soon-to-be wife had to finish a Homework assignment for one of their classes the night before…can you believe that?! If that were my professor I’d want to be excused. F’real. Or at least get extra credit.  Nonetheless, all of us groomsman had a awesome breakfast over at Brookfields Restaurant where we all shared memories of Caleb, joked with him about being whipped, and other things groomsman talk about that I’ll refrain from writing here. Later on during the day we hung out more, drank a few beers, and lounged by the pool.

One of my favorite memories with Caleb is when he, Andrew (Caleb’s best man) and I took a trip to Santa Cruz. I’m about to throw it wayyy back to 2007. Yep. There’s video.

You know I couldn’t go without taking ANY photos at the wedding. So my trusty iphone made due for a few photos…

Here’s Andrew helping Caleb out with his tie..

There he is…man of the hour.

Before I knew Caleb I knew these 2 guys. I grew up with them down the street in Dixon and couldn’t be more happy they’re in my life. On the left is Brian and the right is Andrew.

This was my handsome date for the evening…

And here are my amazing parents who were in attendance as well.

One of my favorite parts about being a groomsman believe it or not, was entering the reception.

Us groomsman go hard.

Being able to be on the other side of the camera forced me to remember what I love about photographing weddings: Helping couples remember one of their best days in life. It’s truly an amazing thing to do and I thank all of my couples for allowing me to be a part of their wedding day.

As for Caleb and Shauna, I’m extremely happy that I was able to dance, drink, and have fun with everyone without the worries of getting the important photos. I have no doubt great things are in store for their future and that Caleb will make an amazing dad. And me another Uncle!!

Happy Tuesday!
