Immediately after Restart Episode 2, it was time to start working on the new website so that it could be debuted for episode 3 on March 6th. Cue panic mode. Which meant, I had 4 days to get all the content together that will go on the website and the designer can do their thing. One of the things I had trouble with the most was writing an “about me” section. It’s so easy writing about other people… but when it comes to myself? Well that’s a different story.
I didn’t even know where to start. Time was ticking! Ugh. I carried around a notebook in hopes that sudden inspiration would find me and I would have at least something to go off of.
It helped. And here’s a few ways to help write about yourself that I figured out during my process. Tommy gave me the idea to look at my Facebook posts and my Instagram photos to see what it is I like. Those social media outlets are photos of what I like and enjoy so that was a really good starting point. Plus, I integrated a few of those instagram photos into my about me section on my website with rollover text. If you talk about how you like ice cream..don’t just say, ” I LOVE Ice Cream and can eat it everyday.” While this is okay, everyone likes ice cream! Be a little more specific – “I love frozen yogurt and I cannot live without rainbow sprinkles as a topping.” Or something along those line. If you like coffee don’t just say, “Can’t live without my morning coffee” How do you like your coffee? I can’t drink black coffee. I’ve gotta have my 2 splendas and half and half. I think by being more specific in things that you like, the more relatable you can be. While these may not be the best examples, I hope they help someone out there. š
Here are few about myself that I sent over:
–> I’m a small town guy with a big city personality
–> I love kids and cannot wait to be a dad (when the time is right Mom. I know you will be reading this).
–> Spend the day with me and we would probably: Eat a delicious meal. Drink a good beer or wine. Go on an adventure. Shop. Ride bikes. Take pictures. Cruise around San Francisco.
Next, to go along with all of this writing, I needed some updated headshots for the new site…STAT. Luckily I have some great photog friends in the Sacramento area. I hit up Kim to see if she was available on that Sunday to have a little photo play date and take photos of each other. Thankfully she was up for it! I had an idea of what I wanted to wear but when it came down to it, I got stressed out! My room was such a big mess because I didn’t hang anything back up when I was trying it on. Now I know how clients feel before a shoot!
Here are some photos from the day that Kim of Kim J Martin Photography took of yours truly.
Speaking of websites, Promise Tangeman is working with me on my new site and I cannot express enough gratitude to be on this wild ride.
